Cyprus is intending to open banks tomorrow. However, Euro zone confidence contracts sharply while Italian bond yields ratchet higher on political uncertainty. Trading conditions remain thin. US bonds are higher on this on a flight to quality. Gold is not acting as a safe haven which must be frustrating to a core group of investors.
Will US retail sales fall due to a contraction in domestic consumer confidence exacerbated by the increase in payroll taxes? How long will Cyprus remains in the EU? The currency controls it will have to impose to prevent an all-out run will have the oligarchs looking elsewhere.
