This is effectively the last trading day of the week.

Top Day Market News

Overnight, the banks in Nicosia, Cyprus have reopened. Of course the research currency controls as to how much depositors can withdraw and what sort of banking operations a permissible. They, of course, a highly restrictive and are designed to prevent a bank run. Of course the Catch-22 is as soon as these restrictions are lifted, depositors are going to remove all funds anyway.

This is effectively the last trading day of the week. Weekly jobless claims increased by 16,000 which was a surprise.

This is also effectively the last trading day of the quarter so expect some window-dressing. To most interesting in the sense that we have a market holiday but the government will release numbers regarding personal income and spending, the PCE price deflator and the University of Michigan consumer sentiment number. It’s sort of like a tree falling in the forest with no one to hear it.

Enjoy the weekend.
