Top Day Market News
June currencies come off the board on Monday, so roll. Nikkei was down 6% overnight and the Yen is up its obligatory 185 points. FTSE is down 44, DAX down 100 and CAC down 16.53. All this as markets are baking in the possibility of tapering at the next FOMC rate decision meeting next Wednesday.
Retail sales are better than expected at +0.6%. Weekly jobless claims down 12K, also ok. Continuing claims lower as well. May import prices down, export prices down as well. This should take the luster off the Yen.
The only caveat to these numbers is that some will interpret that since the economy may be doing better, despite sequester, the Fed may be more inclined to taper.
