Top Day Market News
The Producer Price Index comes in at +0.5%, a number which can be read several ways. His number did not have an immediate response by the markets except to trim, slightly the strength in the bond market.
Overnight, the FTSE, Dax and CAC were all better by .07, .39 and .18 while the Nikkei was better by 1.94%.
Yesterday’s biggest head fake, was the fact that the third treasury auction went badly just as badly as the second leg of the refunding but the bond market really motors higher into the close. The other chop and slop yesterday was of course the rollovers from June to September futures contracts. This created a lot of heat and little light.
We also get industrial production and capacity utilization at 9:15 AM and the University of Michigan’s consumer sentiment index which has suddenly become the focus of high frequency trading as certain traders have been able to buy the information ahead of its actual release thereby gaining a trading edge.
