Overnight, Spanish and Italian bonds surged in price and fell in yield in the belief that the ECB will provide stimulus through bond purchases. Italy’s 10 year fell below 6% for the first time in a week. Actually, the ECB hasn’t bought bonds in months (it stopped in March) and it remains questionable if they will start doing so now. They will probably lower the haircut on sovereign bonds they accept as collateral and this will prove disappointing to the market.
To complete the week, we get an advanced reading on Q2 Gross Domestic Product and the University of Michigan Consumer sentiment index.
