A busy and important day in terms of eco releases.

09-13-2013

Top Day Market News

A busy and important day in terms of eco releases. Retail sales are always critical as a barometric marker to US economic health. At the same time we get the Producer Price Index, the core rate and finally the University of Michigan consumer sentiment index at 9:55 for algo traders to pounce on.

Looking at the grid below we continue to see a market looking for directionality. The Nasdaq could flip over with a negative close while the Yen, debt instruments and crude could flip their intermediate trends or confirm them depending on where those markets close.

In addition to this opaque soup, we get currencies rolling to December as September comes off the board early Monday. Gold is apparently terrified of tapering as it blew through perceived support levels yesterday like some sort of Maginot line. The biggest asterisk of the day, yesterday, was the weekly unemployment claims plunging which was immediately attributed to two states not reporting (how does your algo deal with that data point?).
