Top Day Market News
With the end of Summer comes the end of Larry Summers’ bid for the chairmanship of the Federal Reserve. He was viewed, speculatively, as being more hawkish than other candidates, notably Janet Yellen. At the same time, the probability of an air strike against Syria becomes less and less likely. Russia now seems to be in the position of brokering the compliance deal. This should prove frustrating. As a result, stocks and bonds are sharply higher on short covering and the dollar is weaker.
Empire State Manufacturing index comes in weaker than expected.
