Top Day Market News
Here comes the second big wrinkle of the week. Today we get the Non-farm payrolls number and the unemployment rate. The belief going onto this is that the economy added 180K in new jobs while the unemployment rate stayed steady at 7.3%. This Tuesday release is due to the government shutdown and should come as a surprise to many. First Friday releases are almost ingrained into the market’s DNA. Perhaps this release accounted for the 8 handle range of the S+P yesterday.
Other than that we got the crude inventory numbers from the IEA, the statistical arm of the Dept. of Energy. Crude stocks were up 4 million barrels and are at 15 week highs. The November contract expires today. Crude supplies are actually up 18 million barrels over the last 4 months. Even supplies at Cushing, Oklahoma are up 333K. Crude is now comfortably trading under 100 a barrel. Remember November expires today. Get out now.
