Depart of Energy reports that crude stocks have declined

12.05.2013

Top Day Market News

The equity market hit outside support levels on Wednesday and rebounded fairly well thereafter while initial equity market weakness spurred a short covering rally in metals from muti week lows. The yield curve continued to steepen however which was probably prompted by the better than expected ADP private jobs forecast. Rising rates are a price negative for non interest rate bearing assets such as Gold and Silver. At the same time, crude oil had a short covering rally of its own as there was the run up expectation that the Department of Energy would report that crude stocks had declined for the first time in weeks; (it did).

Overnight, we had ECB and BOE rate decisions. In the US we get initial and continuing claims and the second estimate of Gross Domestic Product.

Currency hedge accounts have been looking at long BP and EC while being short Aussie and Loonie.
